The Rudoff Report for April 2008

Why I'm an EcoBroker
Earning my EcoBroker Certification was a labor of love and an expression of my values — both in terms of my commitment to the environment and my commitment to serving my clients.
My role as an EcoBroker is to help my clients address and resolve environmental questions, evaluate environmental claims, and save money through energy and water conservation in their homes.
Working with an EcoBroker benefits both buyers and sellers. I have studied green features like insulation, windows, heating and cooling systems; environmental concerns like radon, mold, lead, and indoor air quality; solar technologies; home orientation; and more.
I can differentiate your home by highlighting its environmental features, as well as connect you to service providers who can handle everything from an energy rating to a green remodel.

Non-Profit Spotlight: San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2008
A visit to the San Francisco Decorator Showcase is a fun way to raise money for the University High School Financial Aid Program. Each year, the school selects one of San Francisco’s stately mansions and with the help of some of the West Coast’s top designers transforms it from top to bottom. The annual event has raised nearly $10 million over the last 30 years.
This year’s home is a Pacific Heights residence originally built in 1905. It encompasses 16,000 square feet on four levels, making it one of the city’s largest homes. Built in an Italianate style, it was customized for Her Royal Majesty Marie, Queen of Romania, for her visit to the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition.
The showcase is at 2820 Scott Street and runs from April 26 through May 26, and is open to the public on most days. For more information, please visit: http://www.decoratorshowcase.org.

Answer to Last Month's Question
Q: What was the claim to fame of the Willis Polk-designed Hobart Building on Market Street when it was completed in 1914?
A: Actually, there were two, and either would suffice to enter the contest. Probably the better-known answer is that, at the time that it was completed, it was the tallest building in San Francisco. Additionally, it was completed in only 11 months, and within its budget, setting another record.
